Statement by Iceland

Mr. President,

Iceland welcomes the delegation of Palau and its national report.

In the spirit of constructive engagement, Iceland recommends the following:

1. Ratify the Second Optional Protocol to the ICCPR.
2. Establish legal and policy frameworks to strengthen the quality and accessibility of services for gender-based violence survivors.
3. Integrate comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) into national school curricula.
4. Protect and promote sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and ensure access to SRHR services and information.
5. Decriminalize and legalize abortion in all circumstances.
6. Adopt a comprehensive national anti-discrimination law that explicitly covers SOGIESC as prohibited grounds of discrimination.
7. Legalize same-sex marriage.

We wish Palau all success for its review.
