The Reykjavík summit marked the 15th in the series. The focus was on early education and care and its importance in ensuring equal opportunities for students from different social and economic backgrounds, as well as improving learning outcomes. Support for teachers and the promotion of critical thinking among students, along with their ability to independently assess information, were prominent topics. Democracy in education and students’ active participation in shaping their own future were also discussed, along with the responsible use of new technologies, among other subjects.
The Ministry of Education and Children organised the summit in cooperation with the Icelandic Teachers’ Union, Education International, and OECD.
The final report reviews the discussions and main conclusions. It outlines the commitments of participating countries up to the next summit, as well as progress in educational reforms based on commitments made the previous year at ISTP 2024 in Singapore. Interviews with children from preschools, compulsory schools, and upper secondary schools across the country are included in the report. Their voices and view on the school of the future were presented and provided valuable insight in all discussion sessions at the summit.
