Iceland visit for UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Thorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, met with Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, in Reykjavík on 3 November. They discussed current global challenges and Iceland´s contribution to UNHCR.

This is the first visit by Grandi to Iceland who has been the High Commissioner for Refugees since 2016. In their meeting, the Foreign Minister and the High Commissioner discussed the situation in Sudan, Afghanistan and in the Middle East. They also talked about how Iceland can play its part.

During his stay in Iceland the High Commissioner also met with Prime Minister, Kristrún Frostadóttir, the Minister for Justice, Thorbjörg S. Gunnlaugsdóttir and Mr. Grandi also paid a courtesy call on President Halla Tómasdóttir. He further met with members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Althingi, with representatives of the refugee community in Iceland and with civil society.
