Filmmaking in Costa Rica: A Conversation with Director Gustavo Fallas on Feb. 18 at 11:30am EST
Join us for a presentation by Gustavo Fallas, Director, Producer, and Screenwriter followed by a fireside chat on filmmaking hosted by Hrönn Marínósdóttir, Founder and Director of the Reykjavík International Film Festival. Taking place in English, the conversation will focus on Costa Rica, with possible intersections with Iceland along the way.
Gustavo Fallas is a director, producer, and screenwriter born in Costa Rica in 1974. His artistic journey began with the study of theater at the Castella Conservatory and later expanded to renowned film study locations such as Montreal, Paris, Madrid, and London, supported by various scholarships.
His most recent feature film, La Hija de Lázaro, was selected for the Ibero-American project development workshop and received support from the Ibermedia fund. This project, produced in collaboration with Spain and Costa Rica, premiered successfully at the Ícaro Festival in Guatemala, earning six awards, including Best Film and Best Screenplay.
Hrönn Marínósdóttir is the Founder and Festival Director of the Reykjavík International Film Festival in Reykjavík, Iceland. The festival takes place at the end of September each year. She has a background in journalism in Iceland and Germany and lectures on cinema and film at various universities and institutions. She holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Iceland and an MBA from the Reykjavík University.
The event is organized by the Embassy of Iceland to Costa Rica in partnership with the Reykjavík International Film Festival.
Les invitamos a la presentación de una charla sobre cine entre Gustavo Fallas, director, productor y guionista costarricense y Hrönn Marínósdóttir, fundadora y directora del Festival Internacional de Cine de Reykjavik. La conversación, que se llevará a cabo en inglés, se centrará en Costa Rica, con posibles intersecciones con Islandia a lo largo del diálogo.
Gustavo Fallas es un director, productor y guionista nacido en Costa Rica en 1974. Su trayectoria artística comenzó con el estudio de teatro en el Conservatorio Castella y posteriormente se amplió a reconocidas instituciones de cine en Montreal, París, Madrid y Londres, gracias a diversas becas.
Su largometraje más reciente, La Hija de Lázaro, fue seleccionado para el taller de desarrollo de proyectos iberoamericanos y recibió apoyo del fondo Ibermedia. Este proyecto, producido en colaboración con España y Costa Rica, tuvo su estreno exitoso en el Festival Ícaro en Guatemala, donde obtuvo seis premios, incluyendo Mejor Película y Mejor Guion.
Hrönn Marínósdóttir es la fundadora y directora del Festival Internacional de Cine de Reikiavik, que se celebra anualmente a finales de septiembre en Islandia. Tiene experiencia en periodismo en Islandia y Alemania y dicta conferencias sobre cine en varias universidades e instituciones. Es licenciada en Ciencias Políticas por la Universidad de Islandia y tiene un MBA de la Universidad de Reikiavik.
El evento está organizado por la Embajada de Islandia en Costa Rica en colaboración con el Festival Internacional de Cine de Reykjavik.
